Aurora: algorithmic underwriting for SME insurance

Aurora is a London-based MGA providing personalised insurance to micro businesses and SMEs. The company also provides brokers and customers with risk management education and advice. Ahead of the company’s official launch in October 2022, InsTech’s Ali Smedley spoke with Co-founder and CEO Jan-Vincent Finn about Aurora’s algorithmic underwriting approach, what products it will offer over the coming year and the partners the company is already working with.

MAPFRE is hosting the sixth edition of the Fundación MAPFRE Social Innovation Awards

MAPFRE will be promoting innovative projects with potential for social impact in sustainable mobility, the silver economy and e-Health. 12 finalists will receive coaching sessions from IE University and will go on to participate in the Grand Final. The three winners will receive 40,000 euros in cash to promote their project and receive free consultancy services provided by Fundación EY (FEY), Fundación MAPFRE’s partner.

Parsyl announce new hire

Parsyl has announced that Edward Mishambi, Senior Vice President (SVP) and Chief Risk Officer - Europe at RenaissanceRe, will join its board as an independent non-executive director. Mishambi joined RenaissanceRe in 2009. In his current position, he is responsible for leading, developing, implementing, and maintaining RenaissanceRe’s European risk management framework.

Praedicat wins Catastrophe Modeling Firm of the Year

Praedicat was named the insurance sector’s Catastrophe Modeling Firm of the Year by Insider P&C. It was a good night for InsTech members. Markel won insurer of the year. ICEYE won InsureTech Solution of the Year. Swiss Re won Underwriting Initiative of the Year and Praedicat won Catastrophe Modelling Firm of the Year. Congratulations to all the winners.

Blink by Chubb Launches a sick pay insurance product, Blink Paycheck

This new product helps people when they are unable to work due to sickness or injury by providing benefits of up to $2,500 per month. Through API connections, gig economy platforms, affinity partners and digital brokers can embed Blink Paycheck income protection as well as Blink Cyber directly into their digital environment.

Ensuro and Parachute announce partnership

Ensuro will provide capacity for Parachute's Hurricane Resilience Program. The program offers protection for residents on the south and east coasts of the United States against hurricane activity of any intensity. The product is parametric and has instant settlement for all eligible claims.

Aon and Revalue Nature partner

The collaboration will scale the development of high-integrity, nature-based carbon credits to meet growing demand. They will do this by accelerating the deployment of nature-based solutions and reducing relevant risks associated with carbon offset transactions.
