Carbon Underwriting: data-driven decision making
InsTech’s Tara Allsopp spoke to Ben Laidlaw, Chief Technology Officer and Syndicate Portfolio Manager at Carbon Underwriting, to discuss the benefits of using technology to make the delegated underwriting process more efficient, the benefits of data sharing across the value chain and its plans to extend the company’s proprietary technology platform, Graphene, to third parties.
Liability scoring is a challenging area for insurers and other parties in the insurance value chain. Under this partnership, Aurora will work with Swiss Re to support underwriting, pricing and claims for SMEs and their brokers. The data-driven insight will enable informed post-bind risk management and make the commercial insurance buying process more transparent.
Previsico partners with Generali Global Corporate & Commercial (GC&C)
Under this partnership, Previsico will support Generali’s clients’ flood emergency response readiness. Previsico’s technical expertise and warning solutions will be used to broaden the insurer’s capabilities. Surface water flooding makes up almost 60% of UK flood risk.
Zesty.ai closes on $33m of funding in Series B investment round
The deal was led by Centana Growth Partners. Zesty.ai will build on its existing insurance products and develop new products for the real estate market. This follows the company’s 200% revenue growth last year.
Chaucer assesses European wildfire risk
Chaucer has published its findings on the growing threat from European wildfire. Damage has increased by 75% in one year. This warning comes in the same week as a heatwave triggered many fires that led to property damage and agricultural losses across Europe. Insurance is hard to price for insurers because risk models are less advanced in Europe than those available in the US and Canada.
Lloyd’s Lab announces Cohort 9 Pitch Day teams
Of 120 applications, 14 have been selected to pitch their products and services to managing agents and brokers in the Lloyd’s market. The Pitch Day will take place on 1 September and will help the Lab decide who will make it through to the ninth cohort. A special congratulations to InsTech members OTT Risk and ARMD for making it to this stage.
