About this event
A fresh topic on the lunch menu
We’re bringing the Exponential Risk community together more regularly through a new series of Lunch & Learn events, starting at Lloyd’s this October.
The ingredients are simple: a sandwich, a specific question and people with something interesting to say about it.
Each session will take a closer look at a topic the market is working through, combining practical examples with different perspectives and time to compare notes. Come for lunch, leave with something to take back to your team. Ideally, more than a spare sandwich.
Join us from 1pm for a sandwich lunch and networking, followed by presentations and discussion from 1:30pm to 2:15pm.
We’ll be adding more topics to the menu over the coming months. First up: can better property exposure data change the deal at the 1 January renewals?
Can better property data make a difference at renewal?
Property catastrophe rates look set to soften again, capacity is plentiful and competition is moving beyond price into attachment points, limits and terms. Some sources have predicted property catastrophe excess-of-loss rates to fall by 10% or more at 1/1/2027.
But falling rates do not mean falling risk. Catastrophe models continue to get more sophisticated, but the output still depends on the quality of the data feeding the models: Roof age and condition, construction, secondary structures, vegetation and local vulnerabilities can all materially affect the view of a property and, in aggregate, a portfolio.
In our first edition of this new Lloyd’s Library Lunchtime Series, in partnership with ZestyAI, we will discuss why having a better view of your exposure by enhancing your data before feeding it into the models can give you the edge in a softer market.
ZestyAI will share practical examples of how aerial imagery, building permits and information about changes to buildings can fill gaps in exposure data before catastrophe modelling begins. Our speakers will then discuss what that additional detail could mean for underwriting and placement.
If most reinsurers have access to increasingly sophisticated models, does the edge at 1/1 come from enhancing your data to understand the portfolio sooner, selecting the right risks faster to quote them with greater confidence?
What we’ll explore
- Which property characteristics can materially affect the view of a portfolio.
- How better exposure data could support risk selection and confidence in modelled losses.
- What evidence would make that information useful to buyers, brokers and reinsurers.
- Whether it could influence price, capacity, attachment points or terms.
You’ll leave with a clearer understanding of where additional property data could add value, what questions to ask about your own portfolio and how to connect the analysis to renewal discussions.
Who should attend?
This session is for exposure managers, catastrophe modellers, property and reinsurance underwriters, portfolio managers, reinsurance buyers and brokers, alongside actuarial and analytics teams supporting those decisions.
Attendance is open to insurers, brokers, MGAs and promo code holders only.
