About this webinar
A global view of secondary-peril risk, from underwriting to event response
In a softer market the margin for error on risk selection reduces, yet more of the exposure now sits in secondary perils and in territories that traditional models do not cover as thoroughly. Severe convective storm, wildfire and flood have become the main drivers of insured catastrophe losses. Writing that business profitably depends on seeing it clearly and too often the data behind the decision is scattered across spreadsheets and systems that are not in sync.
When the data driving a decision has to be assembled manually – a column from one spreadsheet, a file from another – underwriters and exposure managers spend their time data-searching rather than judging risk. The cost shows up as accumulations, business priced without full confidence and profitable risk left untapped because a territory looked too uncertain to write. Swiss Re’s sigma attributes 92% of 2025’s global insured catastrophe losses to secondary perils. With hurricane season live, a European winter ahead and January 1st renewals under discussion, a clear view of exposure is what protects the margin.
This webinar, hosted by InsTech in partnership with EigenRisk, looks at what changes when strong global peril data and the platform that presents it work in unison rather than in isolation. Daniel Grimwood-Bird of EigenRisk, who has spent more than 20 years building risk and insurance technology, and Henry Willis of Swiss Re Risk Data Solutions, will show how a consistent, global view of primary and secondary perils – delivered in a form teams can utilise quickly – helps underwriters write the right risk, gives exposure managers a clear view on accumulations and speeds up the response when an event strikes.
The discussion will cover:
- Why a softer market raises the cost of getting secondary-peril risk selection wrong
- How to write primary and secondary peril risk with more confidence
- How a single, consistent view of the perils changes underwriting and exposure decisions
- How to see accumulations building across a portfolio before they concentrate
- Where forecasting and post-event data speed up event response
